I'm looking to import the content from my various livejournal accounts over to my Dreamwidth journal to consolidate them. I'd like to take comments over as well. Last Friday, my mum and I went to Wimbledon to enjoy our Centre Court tickets that we got in the public ballot. It was Men's Semifinals day, so we were guaranteed some top quality tennis, and we got it. The day wasn't completely perfect—that would have involved Andy Murray winning his match—but it was pretty close, and we had a fantastic time. *g*

So, I've signed up for cliche_bingo (along with scribblesinink) and got my bingo card. (Sign ups are open until 26 June if you still want to play.)

The idea is that you have to write stories (500 words or more) matching the prompts on your card, which are all fanfic clichés (or tropes is maybe a better word?). You can make a single line to call bingo (or several) or go for a coverall when you write 25 stories, one for each prompt. The middle square is a free choice from the big list of clichés.

What I'd like you, my lovely flist, to do is suggest ideas for stories you'd like me to write for the prompts. (Just like you did so wonderfully when I did my drabble-a-day challenge.) Let me know if there are particular characters or situations you'd like to see any of the clichés applied to. I can't promise to write all the suggestions, but this is your chance to tickle my muses -- and drag them away from writing in fandoms you have no interest in to ones you like!

You can give me prompts for any of the my current fandoms (that'll be Tolkien, Stargate: Atlantis, Supernatural, The Kill Point, Jericho and, maybe, Firefly).

It's no wonder batshit fanficcers like Lady Sybilla think they can publish crappy "tribute" novels when idiots like this are trying to do it to respectable authors like JD Salinger.

Looks like maybe someone didn't understand the 50-year copyright rule applies to 50 years after you're dead, not after the thing was published (for literary works; and I think it's now 75 years after the author dies in the UK anyway)? Or thought JD Salinger was dead already?

elena_tiriel kindly agreed to do a nitpick/Americanization beta for my latest fic in the Jericho fandom (which she has absolutely no interest in or knowledge of apart from what I keep shoving on her in fic *g*). So I thought it only fair to thank her for being so kind to me by writing her a Tolkien drabble. She's a fan of Celeborn and Glorfindel, and this moment suggested itself. (It's based on LotR!Glorfindel being re-embodied Silm!Glorfindel, and having returned in the Second Age, as suggested in writings published in Peoples of Middle-Earth.)

(And yes, I know I haven't been anything like as prolific this year, so I'm not expecting many nominations!)

So, a fandom friend had a bad accident a few weeks back, and I offered to write a get-well drabble for her. It only took me three weeks....

She asked for Éowyn as "not a deserter". The drabble is based on MadGamgee's very interesting essay, which competed in the MEFAs, about how Éowyn has competing duties placed on her, including her duty as a member of the King's household to defend and avenge other members of the household on the battlefield.

Muse, of course, decided to make the task even harder by insisting I not only write 100 words but also attempt to produce Anglo-Saxon alliterative verse. *glares at muse and mutters: see, this is why I ignore you and go and write in fandoms with muses that make my life easy*

scribblesinink has been pointing me towards some interesting posts about writing recently. cupidsbow has a great post about how "turning a cliché, channelling the Id" can be used to produce powerful fiction. And there's a list of Vonnegut's Rules over at meta_writer which sum up a lot of good things in a few words. (FWIW, scribblesinink are very busy doing our best to fulfil #6 and #7.)

Also... the 2009 MEFAs are almost upon us! Go nominate and review, and make some authors happy.

Right now, I'm a quivering wreck, hoping that the site works as it should when nominations start in just over an hour. Here's hoping I see you after 12.01 GMT on 22 May with a smile on my face because it all works....

Because scribblesinink is evil, and because I'm a good lemming, I seem to have ended up writing for far more fandoms than I ever expected to. So, instead of having a journal to post fic for each fandom, I decided it was time to create a journal for fic for all my fandoms. (Currently, that's Tolkien, Stargate: Atlantis, Supernatural, The Kill Point and Jericho.)

I therefore present to you tanaquific. Please don't feel you're under any obligation to friend it or read anything in any of the other fandoms I'm writing for. I plan to carry on posting announcements for any Tolkien stories I write in this journal, so you should still be able to find those. (I'm hoping there will be a couple over the next couple of months).

I'm also working on putting together a massive index post to list all my stories, which will include links to stories hosted elsewhere - some of them are at LJ communities, and I have some stories archived at two of scribblesinink's archives for The Kill Point and Jericho.

The latter archive is going to contain the stories scribblesinink and I are writing - separately and together - in the shared post-series continuation 'verse we're currently brainstorming. (Because, did I mention Shiny New Fandom? SQUEEEE! ETA: see updated icon.... The plotbunnies and resulting ficcage are at scary levels right now....)

I got tickets for Wimbledon in the ballot!

Not just that -- they're really good tickets: the last Friday of the championship, on Centre Court! Assuming the tournament isn't completely disrupted, that should mean Men's Singles Semi-Finals - and as the new roof for Centre Court should be finished and working, we should get to see some play even if it rains.

This is the first year I've tried for the ballot, so it's awesome to get such great tickets. My mum is also really pleased - ever since I took her to a Davis Cup match last September (with paranoidangel42 and her sister *waves*), she's been really keen to go to the Championships proper - we were starting to look at ticket/hotel packages because we thought we might not get anything in the ballot.

I was lucky enough to win several awards in the 2008 MEFAs and elena_tiriel kindly created and customised some truly stunning banners for them. *g* Big hugs and thank you, elena_tiriel.

I found another multifandom ficathon on which I can exercise my Tolkien muse. *g* Plus scribblesinink and I also signed up to write something together for The Kill Point (because we need to spread the show love beyond a fandom of two of us...).
